Terms of Service

1. Service Description

V6Direct Geofeed is a platform for managing and publishing IP geolocation data in the RFC 8805 geofeed format. The Services include:

• Registration of IPv4 and IPv6 prefixes into projects
• Assignment of geolocation data (country, region, city, postal code) to those prefixes
• Generation and publication of geofeed files at persistent public URLs
• Bulk import and export tooling, including RIPE database import
• API access via API keys, and optional webhooks on export
• Guidance on referencing your geofeed from RIPE objects

All Services are provided "as-is" without warranties of any kind.

2. Account Registration

To access certain Services, you must register for an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete registration information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials and API keys
• Be responsible for all activities under your account
• Immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your account

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Services for any unlawful, abusive, or prohibited activity. The following are strictly prohibited:

Misrepresentation of Network Data

• Publishing geolocation data for IP prefixes you do not own, control, or have documented authorization to represent
• Knowingly publishing false or misleading geolocation data, including data intended to evade geographic restrictions, licensing controls, or regulatory obligations
• Impersonating another organization, LIR, or autonomous system

Platform Abuse

• Circumventing rate limits, or automated use that degrades service for other users
• Unauthorized access attempts, vulnerability scanning, or intrusion attempts against the platform or other users' data
• Using webhooks or export features to direct traffic at third parties without their consent
• Uploading malware, or content that is unlawful or infringes intellectual property rights
• Sharing or reselling account credentials or API keys

We reserve the right to throttle, suspend, or terminate any account — with or without notice — for any violation of this Acceptable Use Policy. Abuse may be reported to contact@v6direct.org. We may cooperate with law enforcement and share relevant data where legally required.

4. Your Responsibility for Published Data

• You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the prefixes and geolocation data you enter, and for keeping them up to date.
• Projects you mark as public are published at a publicly accessible geofeed URL by design. You are responsible for ensuring you intend to publish that data.
• We do not verify prefix ownership. Referencing a geofeed from RIPE or any other registry remains your responsibility.
• Third parties may cache or consume your published geofeed. We cannot recall data once it has been retrieved.

5. Service Limitations

• API requests are rate limited; limits may change without notice
• Bulk import, geocoding and export operations are provided on a best-effort basis
• Geocoding results are derived from third-party data and are not guaranteed to be accurate
• We do not guarantee uptime or service availability

We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the Services at any time without notice.

6. Intellectual Property

All content, trademarks, logos, and software associated with the Services are our property or licensed to us. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to access and use the Services as described in these Terms.

You retain ownership of the data you submit, but grant us a license to store, process and publish it as necessary to provide the Services.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, V6Direct.org shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:

• Your use or inability to use the Services
• Unauthorized access to your data
• Consequences of geolocation data you published, including decisions third parties make based on it
• Any conduct of third parties using the Services
• Service interruptions or downtime

Our total liability for any claims related to the Services shall not exceed the amount you paid us (if any) for Services during the six (6) months prior to the claim.

8. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through our website or via email. Your continued use of the Services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Services shall be resolved in the courts of Frankfurt, Germany.
